Protecting Sandy Lane "Rec Ground", Dawlish
Welcome to DADS (Dawlish Against Developing Sandy Lane playing fields)
|
The Sandy Lane playing fields area of Dawlish is a beautiful and well-used recreation ground and playing fields. Uplifting sea views, rolling open space, trees and hedgerow. It has a well-maintained golf course***, football pitches, cricket pitch and children's play areas. But, it's an area that is still under threat of development. Tesco's have already had a go, and it's vital that the community sticks together to keep out developers so that our leisure facilities and playing fields remain green and open. A facility for vocational training (pretending to be a youth centre) crept in. Now we are saying "Enough". The wool was pulled over everyone's eyes, first the community was told it was for the youth of Dawlish, then the plans were altered with NO community consultation. Remember - If we have more houses - there will be even MORE need to keep our playing fields at Sandy Lane!
It's time to say "ENOUGH" to extraneous building on Sandy Lane. It's an area for leisure for all - NOT for motormechanics training for the very few!!!! WE NEED TO PROTECT SANDY LANE PLAYING FIELDS - long term. Registering it as a "Village Green" would do this. Under Village Green status, our playing fields CAN still be developed for leisure and recreation purposes. Just NOT for supermarkets or houses. The same applies to a "Deed of Dedication". Houses and Sandy Lane It's not just supermarkets who are eyeing up this land. Other developers will come and go. Including housing developers. But there are plenty of other sites for housing *** Golf course is no more folk! Council closed it in May 09 *Tesco's withdraw proposals Thanks to ongoing community support backed up by Teignbridge's firm resolve not to dispose of the land, TESCO's withdrew their proposals for Sandy Lane on 1st May 08. But there will always be other threats while this land is unprotected... We need formal legal protection on Sandy Lane to prevent this ever happening again |
LATEST UPDATES CONSULTATIONS! Seems that there are consultations, and then there are "Consultations", The community is not pleased with the complete lack of consultation on the CHANGE of design, nor the CHANGE of use of the supposed Youth Centre, that is now a Training Centre - complete with access for cars for mechanics. The message: CONSULT with the community if you want to do things properly! Saying you've consulted in the past, then changing all the plans is NOT genuine consultation!!! See the "You Say" page for more on this
