Protecting Sandy Lane "Rec Ground", Dawlish
Welcome to DADS (Dawlish Against Developing Sandy Lane playing fields)
|
The Sandy Lane playing fields area of Dawlish is a beautiful and well-used recreation ground and playing fields. Uplifting sea views, rolling open space, trees and hedgerow. It has a well-maintained golf course, football pitches, cricket pitch and children's play areas.
But, it's an area that is still under threat of development. Tesco's have already had a go, and it's vital that the community sticks together to keep out developers so that our leisure facilities and playing fields remain green and open.
Right now it has NO formal legal protection on it, although the Council has said IT'S NOT FOR SALE! But if the council changes its mind, the land could be sold tomorrow! WE NEED TO PROTECT SANDY LANE PLAYING FIELDS - long term. Registering it as a "Village Green" would do this. Under Village Green status, our playing fields CAN still be developed for leisure and recreation purposes. Just NOT for supermarkets or houses. The same applies to a "Deed of Dedication". Houses and Sandy Lane It's not just supermarkets who are eying up this land. Other developers will come and go. Including housing developers. But there are plenty of other sites for housing. Remember - If we have more houses - there will be even MORE need to keep our playing fields at Sandy Lane! *Tesco's withdraw proposals Thanks to ongoing community support backed up by Teignbridge's firm resolve not to dispose of the land, TESCO's withdrew their proposals for Sandy Lane on 1st May 08. But there will always be other threats while this land is unprotected... We need formal legal protection on Sandy Lane to prevent this ever happening again |
GET THE PICTURE? Let's get one thing straight! DADS is NOT against supermarkets. BUT NOT ON SANDY LANE We aren't against housing either - but NOT on our rec ground!
